The Derby Mountain Rescue Team exists to save life and alleviate distress, primarily in open country and mountainous areas and also in natural waterways or flooded areas, by undertaking search and rescue when requested by the Police or any of the other statutory Emergency Services.

 We also

•         Pass on our skills and knowledge to young people and other community groups
•         Assist the local populace to recover livestock from locations where mountain rescue skills are needed
•         Provide training facilities in the skills of mountain and moorland rescue

 We are on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 52 weeks a year. Last year was one of our busiest with over 80 incidents to respond to. Most of our call outs occur in the beautiful Peak District National Park, the UK’s first national park.

The team comprises approximately 60 volunteers and we have 3 response vehicles and we are based in Duffield, just outside Derby. We are a UK listed charity and also a company limited by guarantee and we are a completely voluntary organisation. We receive no government funding and rely entirely on the goodwill of our local community where we carry out our own fundraising activities. It costs us approximately £40k a year just to keep the team operational. 

Regionally, the team is one of 7 teams in the Peak District Mountain Rescue Organisation (PDMRO) and we also belong to our national coordinating body Mountain Rescue England & Wales (MREW).
